Electroanalgesia by NeuroMed in Baton Rouge LA

While pain medications can temporarily relieve pain, they may also produce undesirable side effects or even result in dependence.

One of the most effective non-surgical, drug-free treatments we offer is Electroanalgesia (EA) in Baton Rouge LA. This revolutionary pain management system by NeuroMed delivers precise dosages of electrical stimulation to peripheral nerves (the nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord to limbs and organs).

What is Electroanalgesia by NeuroMed in Baton Rouge LA?

If you have ever had physical therapy, you may be familiar with TENS (Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation), an external device that reduces pain by applying low voltage electricity through electrodes placed over the skin. Similar in concept to TENS, electroanalgesic treatments also use electrical frequencies to decrease pain, although at rates much higher than those delivered by TENS. For example, TENS units deliver 1 to 250 pulses per second, while Electroanaglesia (EA) delivers 8,300 to 10,000 pulses per second.

Due to lowered skin resistance, this electrical energy is delivered deeper into the patient’s tissue. Rather than stimulate the nerves, higher frequencies reduce the ability of the affected nerves to transmit pain signals and, at the same time, promote healing. It’s like a block with electricity instead of an injection (such as an epidural). With the correct dosage and electrodes, Electroanaglesia can safely and effectively decrease pain intensity, providing patients with an improved quality of life.

We are proud to offer the only NeuroMed Electroanaglesia machine in Greater Baton Rouge, LA area, and we are highly skilled in administering this treatment.

NeuroMed Electroanalgesic Delivery System is an FDA cleared medical device that has clinical indication of use to stimulate peripheral nerves for the purpose of providing pain relief; and provide symptomatic relief of chronic long-term intractable pain.

This treatment modality, often termed as “Electroanalgesia”, utilizes the application of low frequency (<2,000 Hz) and medium frequency (2,000 – 100,000 Hz) to achieve a variety of therapeutic actions including analgesia, reduction of edema and inflammation, and facilitation of metabolism in the neuropathic extremity.

This medical device uses specific patented pre-programmed software algorithms to bio-electrically trigger different desired physiological mechanisms of actions from frequencies starting at .1 Hz - .5 Hz (for stimulation) then changing throughout the treatment to include a 5,000 Hz frequency. This technology also uses a High Definition frequency generator (HDfg)™ that can produce much higher frequencies, (8,300 Hz) to inhibit the nerves. EA technology is continually using a specific carrier frequency, and physician is changing the intensity (dosage) of the current to precisely match parameters delivered at the appropriate time.

Electroanalgesia is very successful. Results show that 75-80% of patients get better with treatment and have lasting results; however, there is no guarantee of success. Note that 20-25% of patients will claim they received little or no long-term relief. For this reason, a variety of new treatment options are included in most patient treatment protocols.

ELECTROANALGESIA: HOW CAN IT HELP MANAGE PAIN?

You have more options for dealing with chronic pain than you might think. Chiropractic physicians specialize in noninvasive solutions to discomfort, and thanks to modern technology they can offer more treatments than ever before. One modern chiropractic solution that you may not have heard of is electroanalgesia therapy. It is a treatment that uses electrical pulses to put a stop to pain. Come to our office to explore how electroanalgesia works and how it could help you find the relief you’ve been looking for.

What Kind of Pain Can Electroanalgesia Help With?

Your chiropractic physician, Dr. Bell, is likely to suggest electroanalgesia for various kinds of chronic pain. For example, sometimes your discomfort might be caused by peripheral neuropathy, which is when the peripheral nerves have been damaged due to injury, infection, metabolic issues, or other causes. The treatment lets you stay comfortable while the nerves are recovering.

Electroanalgesia can also help with the orthopedic aches and pains that can occur in your back, shoulder, knees, and hip. Many chiropractic physicians recommend this as an alternative to surgery; not only is the risk lower but there’s no recovery time to worry about afterward.

What Can You Expect During Electroanalgesia?

A single electroanalgesia treatment usually takes between 15 to 25 minutes. Small electrodes will be attached to specific areas of the body depending on where your pain is located. Electrical pulses will be applied to the nerves until the session is complete. Most patients notice that their pain has significantly diminished right away after the treatment.

You should normally plan on having multiple electroanalgesia treatments done to keep your discomfort under control and to aid the healing process as much as possible. Usually, you’ll have anywhere from 5 to 15 sessions; the exact number depends on the kind of pain being treated and how severe it is.

Are you thinking of using electroanalgesia to get rid of any pain that won’t go away? Schedule a consultation with our office today; we can give you more details about the treatment and help you decide whether it’s the best option for you.
